Palatine Police Holiday Enforcement Campaign Nets 62 Tickets/Arrests
During the holiday enforcement campaign from December 17, 2012 through January 1, 2012, offenses included those for seatbelt violations, DUI, possession of cannabis and other offenses.
The “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign sponsored by Palatine Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation netted more than 60 arrests an/or tickets between December 17, 2012 and January 1, 2013.
Commander Mike Seebacher with the Palatine Police Department said in a press release the offenses were discovered through regular patrols in addition to roadside safety checks conducted in Palatine through the holiday period.
The cost of the effort was covered by a traffic safety grant provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
"The focus of the grant was to improve traffic safety through enforcement of impaired driving and seatbelt laws," Seebacher said in the release.
A breakdown of the offenses and subsequents tickets and arrests are as follows:

Hmm, so a little over 1 per shift during the time period, (1.29).
Given the volume of traffic passing through Palatine I would have
thought this would have been low for a normal, not a crack down period.

I kind of agree with you Jim. Aren't they supposed to be ticketing these types of offenses everyday? They get a grant and use it to do what they are already getting paid to do? This smells kindy fishy. Unless they hired separate cops in separate cars not involved within the regular police force, all they did was their jobs, and got paid more to do it..

And only 2 DUI's? I wonder how many their were in Palatine overall (or any other comparable city) within that same time frame.

I would imagine these checkpoints were done by officers that would normally not be on duty at that time; hence the grant money was used.
They would not take an officer off his normally assigned beat to run a checkpoint; that would leave that beat vulnerable.

Scott, then were they paying officers time and ahalf after thier regular 40 hour weekly shifts? Or are these part time employees getting extra hours? (I doubt this very much) All in all, i don't think the results shown warrant reasonable spending on behalf of the Palatine police department.

I am not arguing that the time was well-spent; just that it not 'doing what they already get paid to do" (ie, if they were already on duty).

Still find it strange - 110 sworn officiers - if only 10% on patrol per shift - out of 11 officiers on duty, less than two write a citation?
