Palatine Police Blotter: Storage Locker Busted, Return Scam

Retail Theft

On Dec. 22, a return scam was committed at Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. at 12:45 p.m. Armando L. Gonzalez, 33, of the 300 block of Alyssa Ln., Plano, took a printer cartridge, valued at $67, off the shelf, concealed it in his coat and entered the bathroom. Gonzalez came out of the restroom with the cartridge in a plastic bag and attempted to return the item at customer service. He was charged with retail theft. 

Theft From Storage Locker

Sometime between Dec. 2-Dec. 24.  at 5:28 p.m., a victim reported their storage locker in the 1200 block of N. Sterling Ave. was broken into and burgled.  The unknown offenders cut the lock, and took power tools, brushes, painting supplies., two pieces of luggage, two storage containers filled with clothing, a snow shovel, camping lantern, ladder, floor fan, and two garbage bags full of Tupperware.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A victim reported on Dec. 25, sometime between 2:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. their 2008 Nissan Ultima was broken into while it was parked in a parking lot in the 1900 block of N. Hicks Rd. Taken from the middle console was $208 in U.S. currency. The victim told police he may have left the car unlocked and what was stolen was his Christmas money.

DUI

Becky J. Brooks, 59, of the 300 block of Carter Dr. was charged with DUI on Dec. 18 at 7:52 a.m. Brooks was travelling westbound on Smith St. 100 feet from Northwest Hwy. when police stopped her. She also was charged with failure to reduce speed before hitting a vehicle, and no insurance.

Summer N. Cochran, 30, of the 0-100 block of Kensinton Dr., North Barrington was charged with DUI on Dec. 20 at 12:14 a.m. Cochran was travelling northbound on Rand Rd. in the 1600-2100 block when police stopped her. She also was charged with having a BAC of more than .08, improper lane usage and transportation of open alcohol.

Omar B. Anderson, 24, of the 200 block of W. Russel St. was charged with DUI on Dec. 22 at 3:55 a.m. Anderson was travelling eastbound at 700 E. Palatine Rd. when he was stopped, and also was charged with improper lane usage. 

Andrea M. Messner, 41, of the 2000 block of Old Mill Ln., Rolling Meadows, was charged with DUI on Dec. 25 at 11:07 p.m. Messner was travelling westbound near 117 W. Slade St. when she was stopped by police.

Did I just read this right? The burglars also stole two garbage bags of Tupperware? It’s in the afternoon, surely they were able to see the things they were stealing from a storage locker. I am guessing that they either stole from the wrong storage unit (with barely any goods, so they became desperate) or they saw some value in old Tupperware. So far, based on the items they stole, I see nothing worth going to prison for.
