Palatine Police Blotter: Nicotine Gum Heist

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

 

Jan. 22

A red 1995 Chevy pickup was burglarized in the 900 block of W. Panorama Drive sometime between 3 p.m. Jan. 22 and 8 a.m. Jan. 23. Taken from the front of the vehicle was a red snow plow. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot at the time.

Jan. 22

A 2004 gold Buick LeSabre was burglarized sometime between 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 and noon Jan. 23 in the 200 block of S. Elmwood Lane. Taken from the unlocked vehicle was a Garmin GPS unit, a phone cord, and $4.50 in coins.

Jan. 22

A 2004 Toyota Highlander was burglarized sometime between 1:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 23 in the 100 block of S. Elmwood Lane. Taken from the unlocked vehicle was a wallet that contained miscellaneous financial cards and ID.

Jan. 24

A theft occurred in an office building in the 600 block of N. North Court. A woman said that her wallet was taken from her purse sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The purse was under the counter in the reception area. Inside the wallet was various forms of ID and a checkbook.

Jan. 24

A white 2010 Chevy pickup was burlgarized sometime between 8 p.m. Jan. 24 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 25 in the 100 block of S. Cedar Street. Taken from the unlocked vehicle was $20 and $10 in coins.

Jan. 24

Robert Kadzielawa, 49, of Palatine, was charged with local ordinance retail theft after an incident at Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Road. Kadzielawa opened a box of nicotine gum, placed several packages in his jacket and passed the final point of sale without paying. The gum packages were valued at $30.98.

Jan. 24

A home burglary was reported in the 500 block of W. Northwest Highway sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Residents returned home and found that a 27 inch TV and a lap top computer were missing from an upstairs bedroom. The residents also found that a 42 inch TV was taken from the basement. A basement window located under a deck was found ajar.

Jan. 25

A theft was reported at 9:39 a.m. in the parking lot of Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Road. A woman reported that when she went to her vehicle, someone took her purse from the shopping cart. A woman's wallet, $35 and miscellaneous items were in the purse.

Jan. 26

An attmepted home burglary was reported in the 900 block of Fairway Drive. Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. someone attempted to pry up a sliding glass door. The offender did not gain entry into the home, but the sliding glass door was found off of its track.

Don't mean to blame the vic. but it is truly hard to believe that women are still putting their purses down in a shopping cart.
