Palatine Police Blotter: $1,000 in Copper Wire, Car Registration Taken

Burglary Motor Vehicle
Sometime between Jan. 10 at 10:15 p.m. and Jan. 13 at 6:30 a.m., an unlocked black 2002 Ford SUV parked in a residential driveway was burglarized in the 200 block of N. Oak St. Taken was a Garmin Nuvi valued at $220. The car was ransacked but no other items were removed.
Sometime between Jan. 11 at 10 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 11:15 p.m., an unlocked blue 2005 Saturn sedan parked in the victim's driveway in the 400 block of E. Lincoln Ave. was burglarized. Taken was an Apple iPod of unknown value and a Belkin power kit valued at $40.
On Jan. 11 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., a black Toyota pick-up was burglarized in a residential driveway in the 200 block of Rohlwing Rd. Taken was a toolbelt with tools, valued at $500.
Sometime between Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. and Jan. 11 at 7 a.m., an unknown offender removed 700-1000 feet of pre-cut cooper wire from a boiler room located in the Dundee Corridor. The wire is valued at $1,000.
Criminal Trespass to Vehicle
Sometime between Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 13 at 12 p.m., two vehicles, a silver 2009 Honda sedan and a red 2002 Suburu SUV, both parked in a residential driveway in the 0-100 block of W. Robertson St., were discovered to have items moved from the glove compartment and strewn about both cars. No items were taken.
On Jan. 12 between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m., two vehicles parked in a residential driveway in the 200 block of N. Hale St. had papers taken out of the center console which were then left on the passenger seats of both cars. The first, a silver Ford SUV, had no items taken. In the second vehicle, a blue Scion sedan, the car registration was removed.
Phillip P. Raffin, 70, of the 800 block of W. Goodrich Pl. was charged with driving under the influence on Jan. 8 at 5:02 p.m. in the 100 block of N. Smith St. Raffin also was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. No injuries were reported.
