Obituary: Harry E. Rueckel of Palatine
Rueckel, 80, was a Korean War Air Force veteran, a devoted White Sox fan and enjoyed playing violin, among many other hobbies. He will be remembered on Saturday.
Harry E. Rueckel, 80, was a resident of Palatine since 1975.
Harry was born on September 19, 1932 in Chicago, the son of the late Ernst and Elsie (nee Zimmermann) Rueckel and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15th after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was a Korean War Air Force Veteran, and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, gardening, traveling, bird watching, listening to classical music and playing his violin. Harry was a devoted White Sox Fan and member for many years of the Lyric Opera.
Most important in his life was the love he had for his family and especially his grandchildren.
Beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee Caldwell) Rueckel; loving father of Lisa (Jeffrey) Haimowitz, Laura (Brian) Duckmann and Kurt (Lucia) Rueckel; dear grandfather of Brian, Jamie and Geoffrey Duckmann; fond brother of Margaret Windmeier.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19th from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Interment will be private.
