New Restaurant Coming to Former Mia Cucina Location
The Palatine village council gave village manager authority to negotiate a lease with Tap House Grill to locate at 56 W. Wilson.
A new restaurant could be coming to town in the near future to breathe new life into the former Mia Cucina location.
Monday, the Palatine Village Council voted to allow Village Manager Reid Ottesen to negotiate a lease with Tap House Grill for the 10,000 square foot property located at 56 W. Wilson Street.
In late November, Palatine Patch readers weighed in on what they would like to see at the location.
Tap House Grill currently has seven Illinois locations in Glen Ellyn, Highwood, Oswego, Plainfield, Westmont, Lemont and St. Charles, according to their website.
“This allows the village to negotiate a 10-year lease, with an option [for Tap House Grill] to purchase the property,” Ottesen said.
Ottesen said the village believes this is a good use for the building that will create more synergy in the downtown area.
The property has been vacant since 2006 when Mia Cucina went out of business. The village was approached by the owners, and purchased the property for $2.2 million with an eye toward future development.
Previously, there was an approved mixed-used development that included ground floor retail and condominiums above, according to village documents.
“Since then there has been no development approved for that block due to the downturn in the economy,” Ottesen said.
The village took steps in September, 2010 to market the property by hiring a broker.
Tap House Grill is seeking a special use permit, which would first go before the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). The process for approval could take between five to seven weeks, according to Ben Vyverberg, director economic planning and development.
Ottesen said if approval is received by the ZBA, the proposal could be considered by the village council by February.

I hope prior to approval the Council members will travel to some of their other locations to be SURE we really get a restaurant and NOT just another bar.
A brew pub across the street from another brew pub ? (Emmitts)
Oh well maybe better than an empty store front.

Click on their link and look at their menu. Better than anything that is in downtown Palatine now.

Finally something going to go in the former mia cucina location. I hope they will have live music on the weekends. I live in Palatine and usually go out to eat on the weekends. Love to listen to live music but usually end up going to other suburbs. Come on Palatine and get something in the old Dave's BBQ building, the lot where IDOLS was located and where Alemars was.
