Fundraiser for Local Firefighter Battling Stage 4 Cancer

Firefighter Mike Solberg, the son of Palatine Councilman Greg Solberg, was recently sworn into the Schaumburg Fire Department. Just weeks ago he was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer. A fundraiser is being held to assist him, his wife and young daughter

In October, Mike Solberg, the son of Palatine Village Councilman Greg Solberg, realized his dreams and was sworn into the Schaumburg Fire Department. And just a couple of weeks ago, the young firefighter who lives in Park Ridge, learned he has stage 4 brain cancer.

A fundraiser will be held by his fellow firefighters this coming Sunday.

"We just wanted to help out our brother, we wanted to help his family and no one should go through this alone," said Jeanine Kubalewski, a Schaumburg firefighter who volunteered to help organize the event.

Solberg and his wife Maureen have a 21-month old daughter named Emma.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held Sunday, December 16 at John Barleycorn, 1100 American Lane, Schaumburg from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A $5 donation will be taken at the door.

There also will be 50/50 raffles, an iPad raffle, squares for the Bears/Packers game, and gray awareness bracelets available for purchase.

If you aren't able to attend, you can contact Cheryl Siebert at 847-323-8022 or Jeanine Kubalewski at 847-401-0432 to make a donation.
