While several students are preparing to leave their high school sports teams for college, nine seniors at William Fremd High School celebrated their athletic scholarships and future spots on NCAA Division I or II collegiate teams.
Students at Fremd High School participated in National Signing Day for collegiate sports on Feb. 6. Although the celebration is historically for seniors signing letters of intent for NCAA football teams, Fremd High School honors any student who received a Division I or II athletic scholarship.
The following Fremd High School seniors earned athletic scholarships and will be playing collegiate sports in the fall:
Breanna Anderson, swimming, St. Louis University
Kelly Breen, Cross Country/Track, University of Iowa
Brian Jestice, Baseball, University of Evansville
Angela Kim, Golf, Valparaiso University
Amanda Matasumoto, Softball, Charleston Southern University
Michelle Mazur, Softball, Georgia Southern University
Michelle Mottonen, Soccer, Texas Christian University
Christine Piasecki, Soccer, Clarke University
Kayleen Samuels, Swimming, Ashland University
On National Signing Day, these students received certificates from Fremd High School, which they signed in front of teachers, coaches, peers, parents, and administrators. Although other students from the school will play sports at the collegiate level, only students who received NCAA Division I or II scholarships were recognized for their achievements.
