D-15 Seeks Residents to Fill School Board Vacancy

Candidate Information Packets available online Thursday, Jan. 20.

Community Consolidated School District 15 determined at a meeting Jan. 19 how it will fill the school board seat left vacant by the resignation of board vice president Mark Bloom.

Bloom resigned last Friday citing scheduling conflicts between his work and school board responsibilities. The school board will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Bloom's four-year term which runs to April 2013.

Residents interested in applying for the position must be at least 18 years old, have lived in the district for at least one year, and be registered to vote.

Candidate applications will be forwarded to the remaining six board members for review as they are received by the district. Applications can be mailed, e-mailed, faxed or hand delivered. The applications must be received by board secretary, June Becker, no later than 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27. Late applications will not be accepted.

A special board meeting will be held Saturday, Jan. 29, when all candidates will be interviewed for at least 20 minutes during a closed session beginning at 9 a.m.  Phone interviews will be granted to those who cannot make the in-person interview.

An appointment is expected to take place immediately following the interviews so that the new member can be seated at the next regular board meeting Feb. 9.

This is a very quick process - one 20 minute interview for a person who will need to make decisions on multi million dollar budgets and tax levies and children's lives.
Reporters - please find out the criteria and the scoring mechanism the sitting board members will use to judge the candidates.

Louise - At yesterday's special meeting, D15 Superintendent Thompson indicated that he would supply board members with a list of questions for the candidates. However they are free to ask questions of their own. Criteria and scoring mechanisms were not mentioned or voted upon.

This seems very odd to me - the superintendent influencing the selection process to his direct bosses of another person who will become his boss. Go figure.

Providing a list of questions that the board may or may not use is "influencing"?
And Louise, I would suggest you do your own research. Ms. Mondy is not a reliable resource, nor is she a reporter- she is one who offers her "opinion" (see title of her "column"). All information she presents here is her opinion, and she has a heavily biased opinion at that.

Why does "The Patch" allow Jennifer Mondy to continue her tirade against District 15? It only makes "The Patch" look like an unreputable source for news.
