Contractor Accused of Defrauding Several Local Governments, Including Palatine

Niles contractor charged with defrauding local government agencies, including Palatine out of more than $400,000, the Chicago Tribune reports.

 

A Niles contractor who allegedly forced his employees to give him kickbacks from their paychecks, money earned while working on publicly funded projects, has been charged with defrauding several suburban government agencies, the Chicago Tribune Reports.

Alan M. Harris, 46, is charged with fraud and theft of goverment property, accused of defrauding the local taxing agencies out of more than $400,000, the Daily Herald reports. 

Between 2010 and 2011, the Daily Herald reports, Harris' company, North Suburban Asphalt Maintenance obtained public works contracts in Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect, Volo and Stevenson High School District 125 in Lincolnshire. 

The Village of Palatine awarded contracts to Harris’ company in 2010, 2011 and 2012, each worth about $40,000 a year, that’s according to the Chicago Tribune.

Harris posted $100,000 bond Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune, Harris’ next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25.
