ComEd Customers Beware of Recent Scam

ComEd is warning customers about a recent scam where individuals call your and threaten disconnection unless a payment is made.

Over the last few weeks, Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) has been made aware of a scam where individuals claiming to be a representative of the company threaten disconnection of service if a payment isn't made.

The instructions from these callers, according to ComEd, are for customers to purchase a pre-paid credit card, contact the caller back and provide them with the PIN number.

“ComEd wants to protect its customers from these types of schemes. ComEd will never ask a customer to purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on a bill,” said Val Jensen, senior vice president of Customer Operations for ComEd.

Customers who have received such calls are asked to contact the Illinois Attorney General's office

ComEd also invites customers to call 1-800-EDISON1 to learn the status of their account.
