Chowdown Showdown: Best Mexican Food In Palatine

What restaurant in Palatine serves the best Mexican food?

UPDATE: Best Mexican Food Results!

UPDATE: Thanks for participating! We will have a poll up Monay, March 12 based on reader feedback.

¡Ay, Caramba!

We are sure excited to kick off this week's Chowdown Showdown challenge.

Over the next several days, we will be looking to you to let us know which restaurant has the best Mexican food in Palatine.

It could be the spot that has the most delicious varieties of free salsa to munch on. Or perhaps they serve up the best chimichanga or beefiest burritos this side of the border. Or maybe they have the best deals on the best tacos that make you go loco thinking about the next time you can go back for more.

Whatever the reason, let us know your favorite Mexican restaurant in Palatine by commenting below.

Our first Chowdown Showdown column last week crowned The Lamplighter Inn, 60 N. Bothwell St., as having the best burger with Brandt's-The Little Cafe, 807 W. Northwest Highway, finishing a close second. We were thrilled with the response the first column received, but we thought we would tweak the format.

We will take nominations for favorite Mexican restaurant through the end of this week and have a poll with the top nominees next Monday, March 12. That way people will have a little bit more time to weigh in and a little bit more time to vote in the poll. We will post the winner on Saturday, March 17.

With that said, let's get this challenge rolling: When you have a hankering for Mexican food, where do you head?

About this column: Each week, Palatine Patch will be on the hunt for the best place to get certain entrees in the area. The Chowdown Showdown will allow readers to vote on where their favorite place is to get a burger or a latte or a steak in Palatine. Torero and Mexico Uno in a 1st place tie.
Taqueria on Palatine Rd. near the corner of NW Hwy was great for take out but unfortunately closed.
If you're including A Heights (I know the survey says in Palatine) you must include Javiers.
All very solid choices.

Taqueria "La Presa" did not close! They moved to a location on Rohlwing just north of NW Highway behind the big BMO Harris building.

To keep it even, there should be a contest to see who pours the best Guinness, then it could be announced on May 5...

Another vote for Mexico Uno. Why? It's quiet, clean, affordable, and staffed with friendly people. I used to frequent Tacos El Norte, but the quality decreased significantly in the last 3-4 years. Mexico Uno is so much better.

My vote is for Angel's Mexican Restaurant on the corner of Smith & Dundee Rds. They have very good tasting authentic mexican food. They have a few tables to dine in, but I like to order and take it home. I've not been disappointed yet...

Mexico UNO is the place we keep going back to -- for their hospitality and good comfort food. I highly recommend the huevos rancheros, caldo de pollo (best homemade chicken soup -- with sides of cilantro, chopped onion and limes), chilies rellenos and...more. If they're making fresh carrot juice, it's a real treat.

Mexico Uno is awful!!! Just went there last night. The guacamole uses canned jalapenos. I asked for serrano peppers and they dont have any in the restaurant. It is definitely not authentic mexican food! It was bland and boring. When did "suiza" mean a piece of american cheese on top?
