Arlington Heights Police charged Steven M. Cole, 41, with killing his father late Monday night.

Police said that Cole "viciously" attacked his father and that the violence was unprovoked, according to a statement from Arlington Heights Police Department. Stuart A. Cole, 69, was found dead at his home in the 2600 block of North Stratford Road. Steven Cole was charged with first-degree murder.

An autopsy Wednesday, June 15 found that Stuart Cole died from multiple head, neck and chest trauma. The autopsy also found multiple indications of defensive wounds.

On Tuesday, Arlington Heights police said that Cole and his son had a troubled relationship and that police had been called to the home before. Police also said that Stuart Cole was not abusive toward his son.

Police were called to the home around 11:57 p.m. Monday, June 13. The caller identified himself as Stuart Cole's son and said he had killed his father. When police arrived they were greeted by Steven Cole at the frontdoor.

Steven Cole was "highly agitated" and was making verbal admissions and utterances about what had happened in the home, a press release from the polie states.

Officers were able to talk to Cole and take him into custody. He said he was not feeling well and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. Police interviewed him upon his release.

Cole's bond has been set at $1 million. He next court date is June 23.
