David Seiffert appointed to District 15 Board
The Community Consolidated School District 15 Board of Education appointed David Seiffert to fill its vacant seat on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
His appointment followed a six-hour closed-session meeting in which the Board interviewed 14 candidates for the position.
“There were a number of outstanding applicants who really impressed the Board during their interviews,” said Board President Gerald Chapman. “We could only appoint one of them, and we selected David Seiffert because of his familiarity with the District and his commitment to providing an excellent education for its children.”
Mr. Seiffert will fill the seat vacated by Mark Bloom, who resigned from the Board earlier this month. He will be sworn in during the Board’s February 9, 2011, meeting, and he will serve the remainder of Mr. Bloom’s term, which ends in April 2013.
However, Mr. Seiffert is also one of six candidates running for three four-year posts on the Board in the April 5, 2011, election. He stated he intends to continue running for this post, and, should he win a seat, the Board would again appoint someone to serve the remainder of this term.
Mr. Seiffert said he will bring a passionate and independent point of view to the Board, and that he will listen intently to the many different points of view within the District 15 community.
“This is about the children in our District, and we have to ensure that they get the best possible education we can provide them,” he said. “We have a great school district, and I believe I can bring to its board a parent’s point of view, a business person’s point of view, the point of view of someone who has listened to the thoughts and concerns of his friends and neighbors and is ready to bring their issues to light.”
Mr. Seiffert has lived in District 15 for 12 years. He has two children who attend Jane Addams School, where he has volunteered with the PTA for the past five years. He is currently its vice president of ways and means. Mr. Seiffert is also a five-year member of the District Fifteen Educational Foundation Board of Trustees, as well. He served as the Foundation’s chairman for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years, and currently holds the title of past chair.
Mr. Seiffert also serves on the Palatine Plan Commission and volunteers with Palatine Youth Baseball. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Western Illinois University, and he is employed as a regional sales manager for Hudsonville Ice Cream.
